So, today is the last official day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. In between addressing wedding invitations and scouting bridal day makeup artists, I've found the time to take in the looks of old favorites (Nicole Miller/Michael Kors/Donna Karan) as well as new design teams on the block (rock on Katie Holmes' of Holmes & Yang). I've ogled the street styles surrounding the tents, I've followed the drama (some French chick slapping one of Zac Posen's PR people), and I think I have a good handle on the trends that we can all look forward to rocking come March 20th, 2013, e.g. the first day of spring.

Rather than give you the dish show by show, I'm going to sum up my most favoritest trends, brought to you by the letter L: Lemon. Leather. Life Aquatic. [I could've just gone with Aquatic, but I liked the alliteration and I heart Wes Anderson].

Who doesn't feel pretty and springtimey when donned in yellow? Yummy warm and cool shades of yellow made a smattering of appearances on the fashion week scene, from classic canary palettes to pops of lemon sorbet, sunny yellow accents at Mara Hoffman to DKNY's iconic taxi cab confession yellow. It's easy, it's wearable, it will be in this spring. Trust me.

Leather, normally reserved for the fall collections, is proving to be an insanely hot staple during the upcoming spring season, making it's way in skirts, shorts, tops and even harnesses(!), capitalizing on the Fifty Shades of Grey frenzy, I'm sure. By the by, the shade of gray was also utilized effectively, as seen @Rebecca Minkoff.

Life Aquatic. Some designers went for the hard edge while others found inspiration in softer waters. Poised for Poseidon, Monique Lhuillier showcased a feminine aquatic theme throughout her collection with mermaid shaped dresses, fish scale prints, aqua shadow on model eyelids, and an oceanic backdrop, while Charlotte Ronson featured fishnet overlays, waterproof see-through jackets and more soothing seascape patterns.

So, in summation, get thee some springtime leather separates, mellow yellow tops and dresses, and find your inner fashion Nemo with ocean inspired looks.
