Happy Belated Earthday

with 5 Comments

I forgot that today was Earthday once again, so I am reposting last year's apologetic Earth Day blog.

Sorry, Earth. Maybe next year I'll get it right.

-sammy

Dear Earth,

I feel like such a jerk. I'm sorry I forgot your Earthday.

I was crazy busy at work yesterday with no time to blog, and had a strange feeling all day that I was forgetting something important. I remembered right before I went to bed. I wanted to send you an e-card, but I didn't know your email address and you're kinda hard to track down. I had it marked on my calendar and even blogged about Earth Day fashions last week, but I slipped. My mind must have been on another planet. I suck.

In all honesty, I know I haven't been a good friend to you Earth. I've totally taken you for granted. I threw an empty can of Red Bull into the garbage last week because there wasn't a recycling bin nearby and I forgot to turn off the water when I was brushing my teeth last night. I may not be 100% Earth-friendly, but at least I shop at Lux Green Living, earthsake and Loomstate at Shopstyle for organic, sustainable clothing. That's something, isn't it?

I hope that all of my loyal Letstalkstylers will follow my lead and embrace eco styles that are totally good for my best pal. In fact, I'm buying this Long Sleeve V Neck Tee Dress from Lux Green Living and this BambooChic Hoodie from earthsake as soon as I'm done writing this letter. Look at me. I'm so selfish. I missed your Earthday and now I'm buying gifts for myself.

Anyway, I hope that you had a great day yesterday and that you can somehow find it in your core to forgive me. I heart you Earth, and I won't let you down again.

Happy Belated Earthday.

And next time you're free for Happy Hour, drinks are on me.

One of the many things I learned during Miami's Swim Fashion Week is that models have guts, just like us.

They may be teenie weenie mini guts, the size of a mini stack of silver dollar pancakes, but they're there and sometimes they need some help sucking it in.
model spanx2.JPG

Years ago, on those rare days when I would wake up carrying a food baby from the overindulgent evening before, I would slip on a pair of ratty pantyhose with the legs cut off. Then, lo and behold, Spanx were created! But as much as I love my Spanx, I would never want my boyfriend to see me in them. Flesh colored scuba shapers aren't really much of a turn on, are they ladies?

I recently discovered this secret little lingerie/shapewear line that I've fallen in love with. It's called Du Mi, and it does me right.

Du Mi is an organic cotton Italian made lingerie line that doubles incognito as high impact shapewear. Referred to in the fashion biz as the “Skinny Girls Secret”, Du Mi panties, camis, tanks and thigh shapers look prettier than anything in a blushing bride's trousseau, while smoothing shapes and sculpting away. Wherever you need a lift, Du Mi has you covered with cheeky boy briefs, tummy control thongs and total body sculpting boy shorts and bra tanks that conceal every flaw.

shapewear for women.JPG

Finally, shapewear styles that transcend your average granny girdle style shapewear garments. Disguised as sexy lingerie in shades of taupe, black and leopard prints, Du Mi appears to be designed more for play than work, but oh how they work. The fabrics are soft, luxurious, lightweight and gift women with gorgeous silhouettes whether they're wearing low-rise jeans, high-waisted skirts, or any other flirty and fitted looks in their wardrobes. Who knew shapewear could be good for the environment, feel comfy, hold it all in, and look sexy as all get out?

I'm loving this line so much, it makes me want to break out in song...

Du Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do!

Dear Sammy,

I am really into the look and feel of eco friendly clothing but it's super expensive! Do you have any eco friendly options that are also budget friendly?

Thanks Sammy! Glad to hear you're still with us!

Joanie
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank YOU Joanie, and all of my other loyal blog followers who have been inundating my inbox with fashion query after query! Apparently my little April Fool's Day hoax yesterday was good for blogging business. You don't know what you've got until it's almost gone and I've had so many Ask Sammy emails come flooding in, I'm posting two this week because I can't stand leaving the fashion forlorn hanging all weekend long.

Now for Joanie's question.

As as matter of fact Joanie, I do have some down to earth, eco-friendly choices that are also economically-friendly. Check out 3Clothing and their organic line of fashionable eco-conscious tees that are the perfect choice for Earth Day (which is right around the corner, FYI).

3Clothing.JPG

Earth Day is April 22nd, so what better way to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment than with sexy and fashionable artistic organic shirts for guys and gals that fit your shape, your personality and your lifestyle? With cool original graphic designs that all feature their captivating 3 Clothing logo, you'll get down with nature without spending a bundle. The looks above are only $21 each.

And since I'm feeling totally earthy, I'm offering you and my entire blogging entourage 10% off of a $50 purchase and 20% off of a purchase over $50, just because I love you. Use coupon code 10cat09 or 20cat09 depending on how much you spend, and get ready to be a stylin' organic earth goddess.

xoxox,
Sammy

It happened. I woke up this morning and there was a slight chill in the air. It may not feel like a winter wonderland here in Miami, but there's definitely a call for slipping on that sweater or hoodie that's been stored in a box under your bed all summer.

I grabbed a new cardigan that had been hanging in my closet unworn, gifted to me by one of my organically inclined friends and waiting for the perfect occasion such as this. I slipped it on and was taken aback as the buttery soft fabric touched my skin. I texted my friend immediately with special thanks, unaware that she had given me the golden gift of cashmere on my last birthday. I owed her several expensive cocktails in return, especially since I had given her the gift of Yahtzee on her last birthday. She texted me back, "It's not cashmere, it's bamboo".

I had been bamboozled.

Submitted for your approval, jonäno's ecoKashmere Bamboo Cardigan, a delicate ice blue V-neck cardigan sweater featuring mother of pearl button closures, extra long length for curve hugging appeal and crafted from exceptionally soft and pure bamboo ecoKashmere for stretch resilience and lasting style.

You've heard of I can't believe it's not butter? Consider this I can't believe it's not cashmere.

Being bamboozled never felt this good.

Motherly advice to swear by.

Eat your vegetables.

Always wear clean underwear.

If you want a committed man, look in a mental hospital.

Face it. Your mother is always right.

Rock the vote and get yourself a cool vote tote from Forever 21 for only $10.90. It's made with vegetable fiber so it's another eco-friendly treasure, and it features a retro graphic print design and word from yo momma.

Fill it with Obama or McCain paraphernalia, then tote it all with you when you head to the voting booths. You'll be a total rock star. It is a demrockcracy after all.

Reusems.

Hear me now and believe me later. Global warming is upon us. What can we fashionistas do in the meantime to help our ailing environment?

1. Stop washing our hair everyday.
2. Get a reusable bag.

I know I plugged an eco-friendly bag last month, but hey. Think of this as a Reusable Bag-of-the-month Club.

If you didn't feel the love for my American Eagle Love tote, here's another option to get you to ix-nay the lastic bags-pay.

This Project Green Nine West tote is on sale for $14.99 from $20...and I simply adore the messages. Choose from "Green Girls are sexy!" or "Fashion cares. Green is chic."

You'll be sexy chic too, toting around this tote.

Look at you with your bad, green self.

By now you've probably noticed the coolness factor has increased exponentially at your local Target, featuring creations from esteemed designers like Proenza Schouler, Jovovich-Hawk (Resident Evil star-slash-model-slash-designer Milla Jovovich's line), and the lovely designs of the wispy, ever so ladylike Erin Fetherston.

Guess what? Target just got even cooler.

Rogan Gregory is the newest hot-as-sin artiste designing for Targét's GO International line.

target rogan.jpg

Featuring pieces made from organic cotton at unbelievably low prices, Rogan wants us to look good and feel good about wearing his eco-conscious rags.

My favorites? A toss up between his striped jersey t-shirt (that doubles as a dress for shorties like me), and his crisp linen striped vest. Wait, that yellow leopard print tank is pretty cute too. Oh yeah, the line also features chic swimwear and the most adorable terry cloth hoodies.

target rogan2.jpg

The only problem I've found with GO International is that the pieces seem to go too quickly...at least in my size. Rogan's line is there until June 28th. So wake up before they're gone gone.

I wonder if LC picked up some pieces after she loaded up on Reeses Pieces from the candy aisle.

Keepin' it on target,

I've noticed a trend in stores lately that makes me happier than Charlie Bucket after he snagged that last Golden Ticket to hang with Willy Wonka. Everyone and their mother is offering recyclable bags and totes this season. Designers have finally gotten an earth conscious clue and are showing the world recyclable bags are good and trendy enough to wear outside of the grocery store. It's like you aren't cool if you don't have one. That double negative makes a positive in my book.

I'm loving this cute, fun, 100% renewable resource AE Burlap Love Tote from American Eagle Outfitters. It's $19.50, eco friendly, and roomy enough to tote around all your stuff. Fill it with sandcastle making supplies and spf 30 for your next beach trip, goodies from your next shopping spree, or better yet- use it to drop off some plastic bottles at the nearest recycling station. My favorite part? It features a double sided LOVE screenprint that totally fills me with warm fuzzies.

Both Oliver Twist and the Black Eyed Peas have pondered where is the love? in song. I say, it's in this tote.

*Keepin' the earth healthy,

sammy
