I'm not happy with the way I look in a bathing suit -- any bathing suit. I've tried everything from starving myself to juice fasts and nothing works. Can you help get me beach ready?

Julie P

Hi Julie P,

First of all - go eat a sandwich. Seriously. Starving yourself isn't going to do you any good and I don't want to be anyone's crash diet accomplice. Second of all, thank you for your question. I've been getting a relatively high amount of frantic bikini related letters lately, so this Ask Sammy post goes out to all the girls who are hoping to either shed some excess baggage this summer or to just look like they have.

The way I see it, you have three options.

1. Find the right suit

2. Get thee to a gym or

3. Find the right diet.

1. The right swimsuit can diminish and hide a multitude of flaws, from love handles to droopy boobs or a bloated belly. This Solid Forgiving Swimsuit from Title 9 for instance offers a universally flattering fit in a slimming solid color with clever ruching details that will rock any swim party. Once you've determined which is the right bathing suit for your body, go to town on swim-friendly sites like Swell.com and Tilly's and keep reminding yourself that like men, there are plenty of swimsuits in the sea.

2. Pretty self-explanatory. Sign up for a gym membership, go for a run/walk or sweat at home to an exercise DVD.

3. I'm not a fan of dieting. To me the word diet just translates to "no french fries" and I love french fries Julie, I love them with all my heart. Instead of denying myself my tasty taters, I just don't eat them with every meal or I limit myself to a few. I've been rather depressed lately, so I haven't been eating as well as I should, but I've been forcing myself to have healthy snacks like almonds, fresh fruit, veggies and peanut butter. Starving yourself just slows down your metabolism, makes you sluggish and causes you to overeat at your next meal. Eating is so much more fun than not eating. You just have to make smart choices.

If you hate food shopping and always head straight for the snack and/or ice cream aisle, sign up for The Fresh Diet. This no muss no fuss food delivery service helps you plan out your meals in advance with a breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack and dessert that will take the guesswork out of meal preparation and help you maintain and/or lose those pesky excess pounds for good. All Fresh Diet meals are prepared in accordance with “Dr Sears’ Zone Diet Program*” and made with only the finest and freshest ingredients. You can go with the Chef's Choice from $35 a day or the Premium Choice with three preselected fresh meals and two snacks for $29.99 a day by entering code catalogs1 at checkout. That's a tasty deal considering the regular price is $44.99.

Don't just take my word for it. The stars all love their Fresh Diets, from The View's Sherri Shepherd who went from a size 16 to a 6 chowing down on Fresh Diet fare to Tori Spelling and hubby Dean and spokesperson Carnie Wilson who even has her own mini blog over at Carnie's Corner.

Usually Sammy don't preach, but not eating is never an option Julie. Getting on board with a smart and fresh diet will not only prepare you for the beach this summer but will keep you feeling happy and healthy from the inside out all through the seasons.
