Hi Sammy!

So, I'm in eighth grade, and as we're in the second part of the school year... I was wondering what I should wear for eighth grade graduation. I'm petite (although I'm insecure about my thighs!), I have short legs, and I'm not really comfortable showing a lot of skin or wearing super short dresses. I'm a fan of modesty, personally.... haha. But I'd like to wear something cute, but modest. Thank you so much!

Hi there Charlotte,

Thanks for writing in! I must say that I am très impressed with you, Char. I am guessing that you have just recently entered teendom, and yet you have already grasped the concept that a girl doesn't have to show a lot of skin in order to be chic. Also, you are already contemplating possible outfits 4 to 5 months before your special event. You are, indeed, a girl after my own heart. As for dresses, I have found a few options for you, depending on whether you want to go simple, stylish or sensational.

Check out the elegantly embroidered and eyelet detailed Bella Dress from dELiA*s, a look that will make a modest yet feminine statement as you say Ciao to middle school. It has an all shape flattering A-line silhouette, and at 38 inches long, you'll get the leg coverage you crave without the risk of being mistaken for your school's librarian. I'm loving this lovely shade of mint, but it also comes in a springtime floral pattern, rose or ivory shades to suit your color preferences. If you aren't crazy about the sleeveless look, just add a pretty cropped cardigan for some extra coverage.

If you aren't afraid to play with prints and want to go for extra credit, this My Michelle party dress from jcpenney is black, white, bold, and cute all over, on sale for $49.99. Added bonus, wear it to your 2nd cousin's summer wedding, an Easter brunch or any other semi-dressy event. Same cardi coverage rules apply.

If all of these looks are too safe, the Sequined Shoulder Dress from Forever 21 is as glam as you can get while maintaining your modesty. The flared skirt will cover your thighs and because you're petite, I estimate that this frock will hit you right at or just above the knee. If that's still too much leg too reveal, just add a pair of black tights for an even more mod look.

I hope these suggestions help and congrats on your upcoming graduation!

Look out freshmen dudes, here comes Charlotte.

xoxo,

sammy
